Police are trying to identify the bodies of two men found while firefighters were putting out a brush fire in Queens early Wednesday morning.

The adult victims were found around 4:30 a.m. on 159th Avenue & 78th Street near the Belt Parkway in Howard Beach.

The bodies were discovered fully clothed.

No information has been released on their identities, but Sources say one of the men had been reported missing from his home.

"My guess is they weren't there very long, the fire was started apparently to cover up the crime," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Residents living in the neighborhood say brush fires are not unusual, but the discovery of bodies is a whole different story.

"I guess if someone wants to cover up any type of crime you set a fire, I'm assuming that's what murderers do," said one Howard Beach resident.

"Hopefully they came from out of the neighborhood, it's not any local people involved in any kind of problems," said another neighborhood resident.

Residents who spoke with NY1 also note the marsh area has been known to attract the homeless and even parties.

"It's a very desolate area, though, you know you could see why someone would pick it. I mean during the day it's totally residential and safe but at night there is nothing here," said one resident.

The medical examiner will work to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
