It appears a Staten Island mother who went missing in Turkey is dead.
A family friend of Sarai Sierra, 33, told NY1 that her family was informed she was found dead in Istanbul.
Turkey's state-run news agency, Anadolu, first reported that she was found dead.
The agency said Sierra's body was discovered by residents near ancient city walls in a low-income district.
The private NTV news channel said police identified Sierra through her driver's license.
The family of the amateur photographer said she traveled to Turkey alone on January 7.
She was supposed to go with a friend who backed out at the last minute.
Sierra's family says they had been in contact with her almost daily.
Her husband and brother traveled to Istanbul to aid in the search.
Surveillance video captured Sierra in Istanbul on January 20.
She was due back in the U.S. the following day.
Her family realized she was missing when they went to pick her up at the airport and she never appeared.
Local news reports said police have detained nine people in connection with the case.
