A frustrated Greenwich Village resident affected by Hurricane Sandy thought she would never get her Verizon phone service restored, until NY1 for You stepped in to help. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For You report.
Months after Hurricane Sandy, Lee Gross remained one of only two people in her Greenwich Village apartment building without Verizon landline phone service.
"My television came back, the electricity came back, but Verizon service didn't come back," Gross says.
Verizon gave Gross several restoration dates, but weeks went by and still no service.
NY1 contacted Verizon to ask about the delay and a spokesman told the station the copper network serving Gross was destroyed by the storm. He said they were attempting to move her service over to a working copper cable.
However, a day after NY1 contacted Verizon, Gross informed the station that a technician from the company stopped by her home and had her phones working in no time.
She says they also got around to fixing her neighbor’s service as well.
"I am so grateful to you guys," Gross says. "I mean, who knows whether it might have been another failed date. They gave me five or six other dates and they all failed."
The quick fix follows weeks of what seem to Gross like unnecessary waiting.
