The effects of Hurricane Sandy are still being felt by businesses across the city, but a couple of guys in Mott Haven aren't going to let a storm stop them from bringing brewing back to the borough. NY1's Erin Clarke filed the following report.

The boogie down is back in the beer business.

"There's no brewery in the Bronx since 1968," said Sean McCain, the sales director of the Bronx Brewery. "We want to bring more people up to the Bronx and they can enjoy everything the borough has to offer."

The guys behind the Bronx Brewery aren't from the Bronx, but they're all about it since the company's original owners brought them on board to create their Pale Ale.

"The Botanic Garden actually growing our hops right now," McCain said. "We also have neighborhood gardens growing our hops, and we're going to make a special beer where 100 percent of the proceeds go back to help fund the neighborhood gardens."

The brand has been on the market for just about a year and it's expanding with events.

"I've only had the first two, which was the cask beer and the pale ale, and they're both really delicious," said one person at a Bronx Brewery event in Peekskill.

"You don't see a lot of brewing going on in the Bronx or any borough really, outside of Brooklyn, and it would be really cool if the Bronx and Queens and Staten Island or Manhattan itself really makes an emergence onto the scene," said another person at the event.

The event took place before Hurricane Sandy hit. The Bronx Brewery was one of several business in the south Bronx that was hit hard by the storm.

"This block and the block next to us got completely flooded, so most of the businesses were shut down for anywhere from a week to there are a few that are still shut down," said Christopher Gallant, the general manager of the Bronx Brewery.

Thankfully, Sandy was just a blip for business. Fortunately for the Bronx Brewery, the brewery is actually in Connecticut, so flooding affected only its refrigerated Bronx warehouse, a space they're hoping to leave anyway for larger digs before long.

"A big new space, open up down the street," Gallant said. "All the brewing will be done here and we'll have all the specialty stuff down here. We're going to have tours."

The Bronx Brewery will relocate in January, with additional plans to expand into Brooklyn and Queens in 2013.
