Runners are often plagued with injuries, but remedies such as acupuncture may help. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report.

Autumn is one of the best times of the year to run. The air is crisp and you don't have to bundle up too much. However, you still have to protect yourself from injuries.

Dr Ed LaMadrid says the acupuncture can be a runner's secret weapon.

"I'm there to boost their energy, which helps with their endurance," he says.

Shivani Rabb is an amateur runner, but she's been plagued with nagging injuries.

"Just little issues I've had with my knees, my shins, my ankles, getting up to my one mile," she says.

A common complaint among runners is tightness of the hamstring. It usually stops a lot of runners from going the distance. However, there are suction cups that can work wonders for runners.

And don't forget about the fuel you put in your body ahead of your run. Martha McKittrick is a registered dietician and warns runners not to forget to eat fruits in additon to carbs.

"When runners sweat, they tend to lose potassium in their sweat," she says. "Bananas will replace the potassium you lost. And it's apple season, and an apple is a good source of carbohydrates and fiber."

And of course, water keeps you hydrated and on the go. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
