Hundreds revved up their engines Saturday to support a worthy cause at the sixth annual Ride 2 Live for Breast Cancer.

Riders set out from Maimonides Breast Cancer Center in Sunset Park on a borough-wide tour, ending in Sheepshead Bay with a special concert.

Organizers stressed the importance of early detection.

"There is a cure for breast cancer if detected early," said Cheryl Melendez of the Maimonides Medical Center. "So we just wanted everyone to know to get a mammography yearly. If you feel something, go to the doctor. Take care. We have wonderful doctors here."

"250,000 women per year who are diagnosed with breast cancer," said Dr. Patrick Borgen, the chair of surgery at the Maimonides Medical center. "And unfortunately we still lose 40,000 women a year to this disease."

The group raised more than $5,000 last year and they hoped to double that this year.
