Smoking in Hudson River Park could soon be a thing of the past.
The five-mile park's trust says it's looking to ban smoking to stay consistent with the city park ban.
The city outlawed smoking in its parks last year.
The trust is a public benefit corporation and doesn't belong to the city.
That's prompted lawyers from a smoking rights group to write a letter rejecting the move, claiming the trust has no legal authority to impose the ban.
That same group has a lawsuit to stop a smoking ban in state parks.
A spokesman for Hudson River Park says they are not issuing tickets right now.
