The New York City Police Department says a Staten Island teenager confessed to vandalizing Congressman Michael Grimm's campaign office in New Dorp.
Investigators say the 14-year-old boy told a school guidance counselor he and a friend smashed the congressman's window over the weekend.
The teen is being charged, as a juvenile, with criminal mischief.
Grimm said the vandalism was politically motivated, while police call it a random act.
The Republican congressman said computers with sensitive campaign information were tampered with and investigators are still looking into that claim.
In a statement, Grimm says it is possible a campaign volunteer could have inadvertently done something to the computer system and not reported it.
This incident comes as the FBI investigates whether the Republican lawmaker's campaign received illegal donations from followers of an Israeli rabbi.
