A third soldier was sentenced Friday in connection with the death of Private Danny Chen.

Staff Sergeant Blaine Dugas Jr. was found guilty of dereliction of duty but acquitted of three other charges.

Dugas will spend three months in jail and be demoted one rank to sergeant.

Defense attorneys in Fort Bragg argued Dugas was overseeing too many soldiers to monitor each one.

But soldiers testifying for the prosecution said everyone knew of the abuse.

Chen, a Chinatown native, committed suicide while serving in Afghanistan last year.

The Organization of Chinese Americans blasted the sentence as being too light, adding Dugas was in a position of power to stop the abuse but did nothing.
