As the New York City Police Department has placed police officers involved with a violent arrest in the Bronx last week on modified duty, an eyewitness to the incident claims those same officers immediately went after him. NY1's Criminal Justice reporter Dean Meminger filed the following report.

People who witnessed the police beating of 19-year-old Jateik Reed in the Bronx on Thursday screamed at the officers to stop.

Bronx resident Javin James says he was one of them and that he saw the whole thing from his kitchen window .

James said when he could not take it any more, he climbed out onto the fire escape and screamed at the officers.

"Yelled it, I wanted them to hear me. I feel like I wanted them to know you are not alone with what is going on there, seriously," said James.

Reed was arrested for drug possession, robbery and assaulting an officer. His family says the officers are making up charges to cover their brutality.

James claims after he yelled at the police officers, they tried to make sure he would not talk about what he saw. He says they came up to his apartment and broke his door in.

"When they surrounded me and looked at me with gloves on, I knew what was going to happen. I just had time to pull my glasses off. And by the time I did that, it was 'boom' [with a punch]. I did [put up my hands] like that to shield my face immediately. I tried to protect my face," said James. "I'm shielding my face and this is exposed. He uses his right leg and stomps me here."

James says then he was threatened.

"Forcibly told me, now tell me, 'What you saw? Tell me if you saw anything. Tell me if you saw anything,'" said James. "So I said, 'No,' because of fear."

James said when the police officers started to bang on his door, he turned to Facebook and documented it, writing "cops just broke in my apt door!!!"

Minutes later, James communicated with friends that he called 911.

James says a sergeant and an officer responded to the call and took a report. He says he also spoke with the NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau. He hopes his case is fully investigated, despite the fact there is no video to back up his alleged assault.

Video of Reed's arrest was posted online, and as the Internal Affairs Bureau investigates the arrest, NYPD officials say the involved officers are now on modified duty. The Bronx district attorney is also investigating the incident.
