Two men in the Bronx were hospitalized after they were hit on the head by a shopping cart that was dropped from a parking garage near a Home Depot store.
Authorities say the men were walking past the Home Depot in Mott Haven shortly after 5:30 p.m. when the cart fell from an unknown floor and injured them.
Police say a 52-year-old man was in critical condition and a 30-year-old man was in stable condition late Monday.
Workers said the injured men were livery cab drivers, but police had not verified that by late Monday.
"There was a gash on his forehead, you could literally see his skull," said an eyewitness. "I just ran in, grabbed his hand, tried to comfort him as much as I can, but the second one was not conscious at all. We had to actually wake him up. It was just, wow. One cart that hit both of them at the head."
"You didn't see him do any movements or anything. To me, he might have been unconscious," said another eyewitness. "Last thing you want to do is be walking around carelessly and have something falling down on top of your head like that. It's an unfortunate incident."
By late Monday, police had not made any arrests and had not released information on suspects.
The case recalls another incident in October, when two 12-year-old boys pushed a shopping cart off a fourth-floor walkway of the East River Plaza in East Harlem and seriously injured a woman.
Both boys pleaded guilty to the earlier incident.
