The San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants are squaring off at the National Football Conference Championship title game in San Francisco tonight to see which team will go to Super Bowl XVLI.

The Giants earned their place with last week's win in Green Bay and are looking to pull of another upset today.

The 49ers became NFC West champions when they beat the New Orleans Saints with a last-minute touchdown last weekend.

The Giants are hoping history is on their side once again, as they are 4-0 in NFC title games, including a win in San Francisco in 1991.

The Niners beat Big Blue in November.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin has gone through a roller-coaster season, as six weeks ago Big Blue was 7-7 and seemed bound to miss the playoffs. Now there are talks that Coughlin should be included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

"I just keep the blinders on and go straight ahead," said Coughlin before the game. "I don't have anything to do with what's being said on the outside, so priorities in the way that I think about it, I don't let it affect me in any way."

"You never know if you're going to go back to this point and play for an NFC championship game, you know?" said Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who led the team to their last Super Bowl win in 2008. "You try to enjoy this opportunity, enjoy this experience, have fun with it, yet make sure you're giving it all with preparation."

The winner will face either the New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XVLI in Indianapolis, Ind. in two weeks.

NY1's Kevin Garrity is traveling with the Giants and is reporting from Candlestick Park on the championship game.
