Police were looking for the driver who hit a man on the Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx before driving away.
Investigators say a 23-year-old pedestrian was crossing the Parkway between Paul and Goulden Avenues in Bedford Park around 4:30 a.m. Monday, when he was hit by a westbound car.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
One man told NY1 that such a mishap is unusual for the area.
"This is pretty much a safe area, and there just about a light on every corner," he said. "But things do happen and we've got to be safe out there, especially around the holidays. We've got to take our time and travel there safely."
By Monday afternoon, police had not described the car that hit the man.
Meanwhile, authorities were also looking for the hit-and-run driver who ran down a woman in Crown Heights, Brooklyn on Sunday.
Investigators say 38-year-old Donna Fountain was hit as she was crossing Eastern Parkway at Troy Avenue on Christmas morning.
Fountain, who was walking just a few blocks from her home on St. John's Place, was hit by a gray car that then sped off.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
