Senator Charles Schumer wants an investigation launched into credit agencies that sell information about consumers' prescription drug use and annual income to third parties for large profits.

In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, Schumer said the personal information is sold to marketing companies for business use.

The senator mentioned Fair Isaac Corporation and Experian as two of the agencies that have sold the information to third parties.

Schumer said credit bureaus make it difficult for consumers to access their own information.

He said he will come up with legislation to stop the practice, if needed.
