The skies over the Hudson River were lit up Monday night during the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show.

About 40,000 shells, featuring 50 designs and 17 colors were fired over the Hudson River from six barges just after 9 p.m.

The show also celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

There were also two flyovers over the Hudson, at 7 and 8 p.m., from the Verrazano Bridge to Pier 86.

The first flyover featured four F-15 Eagles and six New York City Police Department helicopters performed the second flyover.

The best viewing spots were along the West Side Highway.

Many who came out for the show say they won't soon forget it.

"The best show I've ever seen and the music how it goes with it, awesome," said one spectator.

"I don't think I have to see fireworks again in my whole life. There is no way to top this," said another.

"Feeling the fireworks, feeling the vibration from the explosions. You get to be here with friends and family, a good time. It's just a better experience live," said a third.

Macy's says it estimates three million people came out in person to view this year's fireworks spectacular. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
