The man who managed to board a cross-country flight with an invalid boarding pass last week appeared in court Friday to answer to charges of being a stowaway.
A judge ordered Olajide Oluwaseun Noibi, 24, to remain in federal custody.
Officials say Noibi boarded a Virgin America plane last week on a trip from JFK to Los Angeles.
According to the officials, he made it through security checkpoints with a boarding pass that was both expired and in someone else's name.
Once onboard, a flight attendant noticed the man was sitting in a seat that was supposed to be vacant.
He was arrested days later at Los Angeles Airport after trying to get on another flight, allegedly with 10 more expired passes in his bag, all with different names.
Law enforcement officials are not linking Noibi to terrorism.
