A Bronx toddler whose fall from a fourth floor apartment window was caught on surveillance video Tuesday night remained in critical condition a day later.

Police say the two-year-old boy fell at 25 West Tremont Avenue in Morris Heights.

Surveillance video shot from a deli on the first floor shows the boy falling through a tree to the street. A crowd quickly forms, and the mother of the child runs to the boy's side. Minutes later, an ambulance arrives and takes him away on a stretcher.

Residents who live in the building said the child's apartment was missing window guards.

The building's management was investigating Wednesday.

"It's our policy that we have window guards. If you look around you'll see that we do have that but we'll continue looking into that. But primarily our hearts go out to our tenant and to her child and we're hopeful that the child will make a full recovery," said Penny Wisneski of Reliant Realty.

"It was a tragic scene yesterday. It should have never even happened," said one tenant.

"That can happen to my daughter you know? It's crazy what happened," said another.

The boy was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital.
