Police are investigating after music mogul Sean "P Diddy" Combs got a police escort for one city block.
The New York City Police Department says a sergeant allowed the escort Friday night after a concert at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom.
A member of Combs' entourage identified as his dry cleaner had asked several officers for assistance. A sergeant reportedly agreed and a police van escorted Combs from the ballroom to the entrance of the Lincoln Tunnel.
Police say the escort was unauthorized and Mayor Michael Bloomberg says security is the only reason anyone should get one.
"The bottom line is we're not in the...the police department should treat everybody exactly the same and if you don't get a police escort, P.Diddy shouldn't," Bloomberg said.
Police are denying reports that several officers escorted Combs farther into New Jersey.
At least one city councilman is calling on Combs to reimburse the city.
