The city's "Taxi of Tomorrow" could be built right here in Brooklyn.
As the Taxi and Limousine Commission prepares to make its decision on the city's next official cab, the Turkish manufacturer Karsan is dangling a big economic development carrot.
The New York Daily News reports Karsan says it will build its vehicles at a plant in the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal.
Karsan, one of three companies in the final selection process, says the assembly line could create as many as 800 jobs in the borough.
Ford and Nissan also have competing designs, but neither has made the same pledge.
The "Taxi of Tomorrow" will replace 16 different vehicle models currently used as cabs.
The workhorse Crown Victoria has been discontinued.
