It was anything but business as usual in Albany Monday as embattled State Senator Carl Kruger returned to the capital. NY1's Erin Billups filed the following report.

Senator Carl Kruger who’s facing federal corruption, bribery and theft of honest services charges was not interested in talking about his predicament Monday. And despite calls -- mainly from Republicans -- the senator says he’s not going anywhere.

"I’m representing by district today. I will continue to represent my district. I am the officially elected State Senator for the 27th Senate District of King’s County and I enjoy the privilege of doing that," Kruger told reporters.

While he may be in Albany it’s clear things are different. He's no longer ranking member of the State Senate Finance Committee. His seat was taken by his replacement senator Liz Krueger, and his title stripped from his door. He was even banished from the closed-door Democratic conference meeting. Senate Minority Leader John Sampson delivered the message to him personally.

"He’s going to comply with the wishes of the conference and he’s just going to concentrate on representing his district," Sampson said.

Sources say Kruger was not well liked to begin with and there’s anger toward the senator for setting them back in their efforts to rebuild confidence in the legislature.

Lawmakers even went as far as to relegate him to the corner of the chamber. One Senator tells NY1 nobody wants to sit next to him. His one amigo in the chamber, Senator Ruben Diaz Senior, says it’s wrong how Kruger is being treated.

“A bunch of hypocrites. Because we understand that he’s in trouble he has to fight for his life now. To punch and kick people when they’re down while enjoy and take his money while he was up," Diaz Senior said.

Senate Democrats are staying quiet for now about whether Kruger should resign. However, sources tell NY1 there are murmurs that members of his conference may want him to step down.
