Police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a 73-year-old woman in East Harlem.

Kentrel Whitaker, 32, was taken into custody Tuesday night after sources say he was linked to the victim through a DNA sample.

Police say Whitaker grabbed the woman as she was jogging near the footpath on the Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive and 111th Street at about 6:30 a.m. on September 15.

People who jog in the area say they were surprised to learn of the attack.

"I live close by, and I find that this is a very safe area to jog. There's always other people jogging. I never have had any problems," said one Manhattan resident.

"Now it startles me. Now I feel a little more. I have to be more aware of what's happening. I feel safe, normally," said another.

Whitaker is charged with assault and attempted rape. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
