An elderly man was killed and at least six others injured Tuesday after a livery cab jumped a curb and slammed into a Bronx bus stop.
Police say a minivan collided with the cab, sending it crashing into the bus stop just before 11 a.m. at Kingsbridge Road and University Avenue in Kingsbridge Heights.
Marcelino Adraneda, 76, was killed.
A woman who was hit had to have her leg amputated.
Two others are listed in critical condition.
A spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers says the crash was clearly an accident, but that the 57-year-old cabbie is badly shaken.
"He said it was horrible, he said there were bodies everywhere. He said as the car was going towards the bus stop he could not control the vehicle. And he just saw bodies all over the place. He said it was the worst accident he has not only been involved in but that he's witnessed," said Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers.
Both drivers remained at the scene and were not seriously injured.
The driver of the minivan was issued a summons for making an illegal U-turn.
Authorities have not released the name of the man who died.
