A New Hampshire group is suing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority over allegedly refusing to run an advertisement opposing a planned mosque near the World Trade Center in buses.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative claims the agency refused to run its bus advertisement because the images included a plane headed toward the Twin Towers as they burned.

The group is seeking a court order permitting the ads and unspecified damages.

MTA officials said they have not yet made a decision about the ad since it just received the proposal yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, CNN host Fareed Zakaria says he is returning a First Amendment award and a $10,000 stipend to the Anti-Defamation League, after the Jewish civil rights group announced its opposition to the mosque.

The ADL says it was "saddened" and "stunned" by Zakaria's decision.

The proposed $100 million mosque has drawn criticism over its proximity to the World Trade Center.

Earlier this week, the Landmarks Preservation Commission declined to give protected status to the building that would be used for the mosque, clearing a major hurdle for the project.
