A Queens man is being held without bail after being arraigned Saturday in connection with the death of a toddler.

Allen Shannon, 27, is charged with second degree murder.

He did not enter a plea.

Shannon is accused of beating 19-month-old Anniyah Levant to death and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Police say he is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, Candace Jones, 22.

The Queens district attorney's office says Jones left her daughter in Shannon's care on Wednesday night when she went to work. They say the next morning, Shannon called Jones to tell her the child didn't look well.

Jones returned to her Corona home and took the child to Mount Sinai Hospital where she died.

The medical examiner ruled the girl's death a homicide, saying she was killed by blunt impact injuries to the head and torso as well as fractures and internal injuries. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
