A student was in critical condition late Friday after she was hit by a car outside Tottenville High School on Staten Island.

Two other students were also hospitalized.

Police said the collision happened outside Tottenville High School when a 17-year-old student crossed Luten Avenue.

They said a driver in a Nissan stopped to let the girl cross, but another car hit the Nissan, causing it to hit the girl.

"People screaming, there's like fire engines, police and all the kids in class were bugging out, [asking] what's happening," said freshman Nicole Annan.

"This was a light dismissal, so it would not have been very chaotic," said Principal John Tuminaro. "The main dismissal, as you can imagine, with 4,000 students getting out of a large high school, this was not. It's fairly quiet at that time of the day."

The investigation into the crash was ongoing late Friday.
