Broadway performers took their shows from the stages to the streets of Times Square Sunday as the Great White Way prepares for a new theater season.
Stars from "Billy Elliot," "Shrek the Musical," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Chicago," "Phantom of the Opera" are performing numbers from the shows.
And if that's not enough to draw theater fans, the show is free.
"Theater is not a cheap thing to come to and it's such an adrenaline rush to stand on that stage and see thousands of people out there just screaming and holding Chicago fans, every year, it's tremendous," said Donna Marie Asbury of "Chicago."
The city is hoping for another successful Broadway season.
Last year's was the biggest in history with 43 shows opening, more than 12 million tickets sold and $943 million in revenue.
