A new food complex in Hell's Kitchen featuring some of the city's best chefs and restaurants is looking to lure diners to the area. Zagat editor James Mulcahy filed the following report for NY1.
Gotham West Market is a new upscale food hall that hopes to lure diners over to this up-and-coming area of Manhattan with a bounty of edible options.
"What inspired Gotham West Market are some of the classic markets around the globe, like Les Halles in France, The Hawker Center in Singapore, The Ferry Building in San Francisco," said Chris Jaskiewicz COO of Gotham Co., the owner of the new building. "What we wanted to do was build one that would be a destination for all New Yorkers."
The result isn't your average food court. The vendors here are some of the city's best chefs and restaurants. You can get everything from Blue Bottle Coffee to meat and beer from Murray Hill favorite The Cannibal.
"We wanted market leaders. We wanted to attract food-driven concepts, quality first," Jaskiewicz says. "So category by category, we wanted the best in each category. Cannibal's known as a butcher, charcuterie, and we think they're the best in that category, and we got 'em."
One concession that's already drawing crowds is Ivan Ramen, a noodle shop from chef Ivan Orkin, who's intent on teaching New Yorkers how to properly slurp their noodles.
If you do come for the ramen, plan on sticking around and trying the sandwiches, or the iberico ham, or a burger and some gravy fries. In an area where car dealerships are more common than restaurants, this venue is poised to prove that if you cook it, they will come.
