Sunday is usually reserved for football and families, but in New York City, it's a sleeper for hotel deals and more. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

The classic song may claim "Never on a Sunday," but in the Big Apple, it's the one day of the week where rates go down on practically everything.

"Lines at the museum and attractions, are shorter. It's easier to get reservations at our restaurants," says Christopher Heywood of NYC & Company. "We have Broadway shows, off-Broadway shows, and we have several dining deals taking place throughout the city."

In fact, some Broadway shows have two performances, just like a Saturday.

As part of a citywide tourism marketing effort, NYC & Co is compiling all information, six ways from Sunday on its website, while the juiciest secret stays between the sheets.

"Sunday night is typically the time of the week when hotel rates are lower, so about 10 to 15 percent many times," Heywood says.

That's because it's an off night.

"This is the one day of the week where our hotels are telling us they need a little more demand," Heywood says.

That's because tourists have already bailed, and business travelers don't return until Monday.

The Sunday syndrome of cheap hotel rooms is especially apparent during Christmas time.

"If you are staying during the holiday season, you can see them drop up to 50 percent," Heywood says. "The one week leading up to Thanksgiving and the one week leading up to Christmas, these are all opportunities for greater savings at our hotels."

This year, however, there is at least one day to disregard the Sunday scenario for cheap hotels: Super Bowl Sunday.

As is common practice in the travel industry, Travel With Val often receives complimentary travel or reduced "media" rates at hotels, resorts and attractions, including those that may be featured in these reports. Such consideration is not taken in exchange for any express or implied promise or understanding of any nature, particularly regarding the content of these reports. These reports only feature travel providers personally recommended by Valarie D’Elia in the exercise of her independent editorial judgment, and do not represent the endorsement of Time Warner Cable or any third party.
