Out at the big E3 video convention in Los Angeles, Sony has just unveiled more details of its upcoming PlayStation 4, and some of those details are aimed specifically at winning users over from Microsoft's Xbox. NY1's Adam Balkin filed the following report.
There has been one burning question since Sony announced the Playstation 4 back in February. The company announced what it could do, showed examples of ultra-sharp graphics, but the actual look of the PS4 was kept secret.
At E3, it became a secret no more. Sony also unveiled a varied and diverse line-up of games and showed plenty of examples of how the line between real and virtual is about to blue even further. Just ask LeBron James, the cover star of the NBA 2K14 game.
Sony elicited two absolutely massive roars from the crowd. The first came with a bit of a jab at its number-one rival, playing off Microsoft's recent controversial restrictions regarding what gamers will be able to do with titles they no longer want. Sony leaves no questions where it stands on the issue when it comes to the PS4.
Jack Tretton of Sony Computer Entertainment of America says, "PlayStation 4 won't impose any new restrictions on the use for gamers. When a gamer buys a PS4 disc, they have the right to use that copy of the game, they can trade in the game at retail, sell it to another person, lend it to a friend or keep it forever."
The second round of roaring applause came when Sony announcing pricing for the PS4, which it says will launch this holiday season. The price of about $400 is roughly $100 less than the price tag of an Xbox One.
