An open house this weekend isn't just showing off one property, it's showing off an entire neighborhood. NY1's Jill Urban filed the following report.
It's not uncommon for brokers selling in the same building or on the same block to join forces and hold open houses at the same time. But this weekend, an entire community is hosting an open house to show buyers all that it has to offer.
"The Real Estate Board of New York is hosting, for the first time, a neighborhood open house expo," says DeAnna Rieber, co-chair of the event and vice president of Halstead Property. "We're calling it the Harlem Open House Expo, which is an opportunity, over a two-day period, for buyers, brokers, the community to experience Harlem through the real estate inventory that is currently on the market.
This weekend, the Real Estate Board of New York is sponsoring the Harlem Open House Expo, a neighborhood-wide event designed to showcase listings and the lifestyle in upper Manhattan.
"Nearly 40 homes will be showcased, brokers from every firm are coming together to really celebrate Harlem, to celebrate the industry up here," Rieber says
Even though it’s called the Harlem Expo, it will include properties throughout all the neighborhoods of Upper Manhattan. The properties are located from river to river to river from 110th to 162nd Street.
The expo will include all different types of housing stock, from affordable housing options to market rate co-ops, condos and town houses. Prices range anywhere from $175,000 up to $3 million.
Each day, the event will kick off with a breakfast at Corner Social restaurant at 126th and Lenox. From there, buyers can plan their search and then pound the pavement from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"From a buyer's perspective, this is a great opportunity for them to have the advantage of an entire weekend," says Bruce Robertson, vice president of Corcoran. "They can stroll around the neighborhood, get the feel for it, go look at a couple of open houses, and then come back the next day and look even more closely if they are interested in it."
Harlem Open House Expo is free to the public. If you are interested, you can meet at Corner Social at 9:30 a.m. or just head straight to the listings if you prefer.
