Broadway's longest-running show is making history and has a major new star to keep the crowds coming.

Producers announced Thursday that acclaimed Tony-nominated actor Norm Lewis will become the first African-American actor to take on the lead role of the phantom on May 12.

Lewis said he's overwhelmed and excited to begin what he calls his dream job.

Lewis also stars in ABC's "Scandal" with Kerry Washington.

He will make his debut alongside Sierra Boggess, who is reprising her role of Christine.
