"Kinky Boots" leads this year's field of nominees at the 67th Tony Awards, with "Matilda" nipping at its heels.

Actors Sutton Foster and Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced the nominations Tuesday morning at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

"Kinky Boots", the new Harvey Fierstein/Cyndi Lauper musical about some fancy footwear topped the list of Tony nominees with 13 nods including best musical and best original score.

It also got two nominations for best lead actor in a musical.

"Matilda" is close behind with 12 nominations including best musical and best original score.

This hit British import based on the Roald Dahl novel has actually already earned a Tony as the Tony administration committee chose to recognize the work of the four girls who share the title role with a special Tony honor for excellence.

The other nominees for best musical are "Bring it On," and "A Christmas Story."

The nominees for best revival of a musical include "Annie", "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", "Pippin", and Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella".

The play "Lucky Guy" is up for six Tonys, including for best play and best leading actor in a play for Tom Hanks, who is making his Broadway debut in the show.

The other nominees for best play are "The Assembled Parties", "The Testament of Mary", and "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike".

The nominees for best revival of a play are "Golden Boy", "Orphans", "The Trip to Bountiful", and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"

The Tonys will be handed out June 9 at Radio City Music Hall.
