Conservative radio pioneer Bob Grant has died.

Grant died on Tuesday in Hillsborough, New Jersey due to an illness.

His death was confirmed Thursday by his longtime station, WABC.

Grant drew attention for his combative style and controversial statements, including derogatory comments towards leaders like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Bill Clinton.

In 1996, WABC fired Grant in connection with comments about the plane crash that killed U.S. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown.

He was re-hired 10 years later.

Grant was 84 years old.
