The stars of the classic 70's TV show "Dukes of Hazard" have reunited for a new holiday album. NY1's Stephanie Simon spoke with Tom Wopat and John Schneider about Christmas songs and their loyal fans.
Tom Wopat and John Schneider are "Home for Christmas" with their new CD of holiday music, and it will feel like a home coming for fans of hit 70's TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard." Wopat and Schneider starred as “Bo” and “Luke Duke.”
The two have sung together over the years, but this is their first time recording an album together. We caught up with them at the rehearsal for their CD release party.
"We make it kind of complicated in the studio. Like, ‘OK, you sing this and I'll sing that’ and we'll kind of go like that, and ‘You sing two and I'll sing two,’ and it make sense in the studio,” says Schneider. “But when you're out there going ‘Ugh? Who sings next? Who is it?’" asked Schneider.
“It’s me, isn’t it?” Wopat joked. "The sad part is we're pointing at each other at the same time."
As a fan of the show, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement of this reunion. I mean, if I’m with "Bo" and "Luke Duke," that kind of makes me "Daisy Duke." OK, probably not, and my apologies to Catherine Bach for even thinking that. But, Tom and John are used to fans who still revel in the show, despite the fact that they've had a lifetime of other music, stage and screen success since.
"It's one of those shows that just seems to live on. And you know, we played good guys. We were great guys. We were heroes, which is the most fun you can have," says Wopat.
Some fans are surprised to learn they can sing.
"Which is fascinating because between us we have like 25 albums," says Schneider.
They are still definitely a duo, but when it comes to song selection, John says that is all Tom.
"I bring out something in Tom that no one else does, a personality," Schneider joked.
The album includes a great selection of holiday classics, some obscure numbers, and lots of fun banter between two good ol’ boys.
