Actor's Fund Performance of "Wicked"
You can defy gravity and help a great cause this Friday when you see a special Actor's Fund performance of Wicked on Broadway. Throughout the year, Broadway companies add a special show to their schedule and donate their time so that the performance can raise money to help those in need in the creative community. Plus, this weekend there are several special events planned so check out the entire schedule online.
Exhibit: "What's Up Doc"
At the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, join in the chorus of cartoon fans asking "What's Up Doc?" What's Up Doc the exhibit explores the creative genius of the late animation director and artist “Chuck” Jones. He helped perfect old time favorites like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and created other memorable characters including Pepé Le Pew, Wile E. Coyote, and the Road Runner. It opens Saturday.
ChEck Us OuT Dance Festival: A Celebration of Female Choreographers
ChEckiT!Dance presents the fourth annual ChEck Us OuT Dance Festival: A Celebration of Female Choreographers. It's this saturday at 5 p.m. at Summit Rock in Central Park by 83rd Street and Central Park West. It's free.
Staten Island Beach Fest
This saturday kicks of Staten Island Beach Fest! This celebration will take place each weekend now through labor day on Staten Island beaches. This weekend, local legend Matt Long bring his serious sand castle building skills to midland beach.
Jazz at Lincoln Center play Queensbridge Park
Sunday afternoon, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra headline family day at Queensbridge park from 4-7 p.m. It's free.
Seeger Fest kicks off today with five days of tributes and live music to celebrate the legacy of folk music icon Pete Seeger. It's free.
Fourth Annual Brasil Summerfest
The fourth annual Brasil Summerfest that kicks off this Friday at Celebrate Brooklyn with Bebel Gilberto and will include 20 shows (many free, some ticketed) at venues around the city through July 26.
Richie Sambora at The Iridium
Richie Sambora will be playing three special shows at the Iridium on July 22 and July 23 as part of a celebration of guitar icon Les Paul's birthday.
In the Paint
For a not so traditional "Night at the Opera," get to Harlem Stage on Monday for the world premiere of "In the Paint." It’s a new hip hop opera about the experiences of young men as they try to find their identity and purpose on the inner city basketball courts they call home. Admission is free on a first come, first served basis.
