You can see Joan Rivers Saturday nights on WE tv in her very popular reality TV show with her daughter Melissa, but you might also catch the native New Yorker out and about around the city. NY1's Stephanie Simon recently caught up with the comedienne and filed the following report.
Joan Rivers is one of the busiest celebrities around, so maybe it makes sense that a Manhattan hot dog cart is one of her favorite spots to grab a bite.
"This is quintessential New York," Rivers says.
Because in between show tapings, interviews, gigs and other appearances, who has time to stop for a full lunch?
Stephanie Simon: Alright, Joan, I want to ask you: All celebrities say the best thing about being a celebrity is getting good reservations at the best restaurants. Now here you are at the corner of 59th and Tenth. Talk to me.
Joan Rivers: This is so New York, you jump out of a limo...mustard and ketchup, this is what the city is all about. One dollar, you can’t beat this.
While out promoting this season of "Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best," Joan followed her usual routine, pulling up to a favorite food truck.
Stephanie Simon: How does it feel when you see someone like Joan Rivers pulling up and getting a hot dog?
Constantine Mordaos (Food vendor): Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I never thought something like that would happen.
It was hard to say who was the bigger fan.
"That's what makes New York great. If everyone was a WASP, it would be so boring," says Rivers.
Rivers is, of course, known for her "biting" comments on E!'s "Fashion Police" but offered only praise to her fellow New Yorkers.
"New Yorkers dress the best," says Rivers. "Here’s a lady, probably just going to work, she’s got the right coat, she’s got the color, and this is a real person."
In between bites and photos, Rivers shared another New York favorite with NY1.
"I love NY1. I love your 'In the Papers,' I love you do local things like this, which get us so excited because we’re New Yorkers, and I love how we get a little bit of real national news, too, so you don’t look stupid when you talk to your friends," says Rivers.
And the busy star promises pretzels and hotdogs are just some of what will be hot and juicy this season on "Joan and Melissa: Joan Knows Best" on WE tv.
