Since it debuted in May, fans of the cronut have lined up around the block each morning at a bakery in Soho to taste the unique croissant-donut hybrid, and now, the inventor is making it even sweeter for fans this Thanksgiving by creating a special cronut for a good cause. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

Sixteen designer "cronut Ccarriers" are being auctioned off as a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization "God's Love We Deliver." It's hard to say which is the bigger draw - the celebrity-designed cases or the cronut itself.

"It's a really special dough that resembles a croissant. That's how people describe it. It has the shape of a donut. It's filled with cream, rolled in sugar and finished with a glaze," says Dominique Ansel, the chef and owner of Dominique Ansel Bakery.

The cronut is a culinary sensation. Each morning, a line stretches down the block. The few hundred they make each day are sold out by 10 a.m.

Recently, Ansel chimed in a on a Twitter conversation between fashion designer Peter Som and interior designer Christiane Lemieux of Dwell Studio about the popularity of his pastry. That Twitter conversation led to the fundraiser.

'They decided that they wanted to get really creative with these cronut carriers, get a a lot of friends involved, get them to decorate them," says Emmett Findley of God's Love We Deliver. "We'll deliver delicious, unique-flavored cronuts in them on Thanksgiving."

You can bid online for the 16 special cronut carriers with two Thanksgiving cronuts inside.

"Heidi Klum just making a statement with hers," Findley says. "It's bejeweled and bedazzled."

Several Broadway shows participated.

"'A Night with Janis Joplin' totally rocked out," Findley says.

So did longtime supporter Joan Rivers, who also helps deliver meals to those in need on Thanksgiving.

"She went all out with her amazing carrier," Findley says. "It says 'yum' on the top."

The cronut flavor changes each month. November is dulce de leche. The pumpkin spice is for the Thanksgiving fundrasier. I tried to find out what was coming up in December, but I didn't get very far.
