NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.
Dead Dream Machine
It's the last weekend for the Dead Dream Machine. This haunted performance is filled with mad scientists trying to steal your dreams. Or are they nightmares? It's at the La Luz Performance Space, located at 135 Thames Street in Brooklyn. Tickets are $20.
CBGB Music and Film Festival
Now through the weekend, it's the CBGB Music and Film festival, celebrating the spirit of the famed nightclub. There are various passes and individual tickets you can buy for shows or films. There is also a massive free concert in Times Square this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The season may be over for the Yanks, but fans can still enjoy the "Bronx Bombers," a new show at The Duke theater on 42nd Street. It runs through next Saturday. Tickets are $70.
"The Butterfly Ballet"
the Shanghai Ballet makes its debut at Lehman Center in the Bronx this weekend with "The Butterfly Ballet." Tickets start at $40 and are $10 for kids.
Dance Now is back at Joe's Pub now through Saturday and again on October 19. It's a sampling of more than 40 dance companies. Tickets are $15 in advance.
Dance Gallery Festival
The Dance Gallery festival for up-and-coming choreographers is at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre now through Sunday. Tickets are $20.
Beyond the city's new bikes racks, there's "Bike America," a new play by Mike Lew about a cross-country bike trip. It's presented by the Ma Yi Theater Company, which promotes works by Asian-American writers. It's at The Theater at St. Clement's at 423 West 46th Street. Tickets start at $30.
TJ and Dave at Town Hall
If you've never seen the improv duo TJ and Dave, check them out at Town Hall Friday night. It's hilarious, and it's all made up on the spot, so even you have seen them before, you can see them again because the material is always brand new. Tickets are $42.
"The Sweet Science Suite: A Scientific Soul Music Honoring of Muhammad Ali"
As part of the 2013 Next Wave Festival at BAM, check out "The Sweet Science Suite: A Scientific Soul Music Honoring of Muhammad Ali." It was conceived and composed by Fred Ho and features the Green Monster Big Band with choreography by Emmanuel Brown. Tickets are $20.
