A labor strike will keep the curtain from rising on Carnegie Hall's opening night.
Local 1 International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has walked off the job.
Carnegie Hall says the union is demanding jurisdiction over all of Carnegie Hall’s newly-created Education Wing and adds that such a move would divert funds from its music education programs to pay for stagehand fees.
The union says Carnegie Hall has failed to acknowledge the traditional and historic work they've performed, and that a strike is needed to protect its membership.
Sources say even though tonight's performance was canceled, talks have not broken off.
