NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city. NY1's Arts reporter Stephanie Simon filed the following report.
Sing For Hope Piano Project
First up, pianos are back at your fingertips, as 88 artists have designed pianos that will be located throughout public spaces in the five boroughs. It's the Sing For Hope Piano Project. Visit www.singforhope.org for a map of all the pianos, which will be up from June 1-16, and a list of related activities. The nonprofit's mission is "art for all."
Calpulli Mexican Dance Company At 92nd St. Y
Saturday night, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a festive evening of food and dance at the 92nd Street Y. Show time is at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30 for adults, $5 for children.
Tiffany Mills Dance Company At BAM
Thursday night through Sunday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, check out the Tiffany Mills Dance Company with two new works, "Berries And Bulls" and "The Feast." It's at the BAM Fisher space and all tickets are $20.
"Broadway Bakes" Fundraiser
It's a dozen cookies and a dozen Broadway stars this week at Schmackary's in Hell's Kitchen. Come satisfy your sweet tooth as big names from the Great White Way get behind the counter from 3-6 p.m. to sell the official cookie of Broadway as part of "Broadway Bakes," a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Bill Charlap Trio At Jazz At Lincoln Center
Thursday night through Sunday, head over to Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Jazz At Lincoln Center to hear the sweet sounds of the Bill Charlap Trio. Tickets start at $35.
Lang Lang At Carnegie Hall
Lastly, Monday night see an all-star line-up at Carnegie Hall as piano virtuoso Lang Lang brings together his very talented friends in concert to benefit the Lang Lang International Music Foundation. Among the greats on the bill are violin superstar Joshua Bell and chart topper John Legend. Tickets range from $18-$109.
Shakespeare In The Park
Shakespeare In The Park is back, with "The Comedy Of Errors" with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, which runs through Sunday, June 30. This week's shows are at 8:30 p.m. at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Tickets are free and can be picked up each day for that date's show.
Rome Neal's Banana Puddin' Jazz
Celebrate a 10th anniversary benefit and concert for "Rome Neal's Banana Puddin' Jazz," on Saturday night at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe at 236 East Third Street between Avenues B and C. The $100 VIP reception at 7 p.m. is followed by a $50 all-star concert at 9 p.m. For reservations, call 1-718-288-8048.
