NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." NY1's Adam Balkin filed the following report.

NFL Mobile

Football season is here, and the NFL has made some tweaks to its mobile app in order to make it easier to consume all that is pro football in whatever way you choose.

For starters, the NFL actually had a few apps this time last year for different purposes. Now, though, it's all in the one official NFL Mobile app.

You get stats, live scores from around the league, alerts on happenings with your home team, a spot for following your fantasy team within the app and plenty of video highlights. The big boost, though, is for Verizon Wireless customers who choose to upgrade for $5 a month to a premium account. They get live games Thursday night, Sunday night and Monday night. Plus, they get NFL Redzone and the NFL Network.

NFL Mobile is free and available on iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows devices.

Madden NFL 25

For lots of fans, watching just isn't enough. Playing, via the latest Madden NFL video game, is also a season requirement.

The legendary franchise is celebrating its 25th year, and as with every version, this one somehow offers even more than last year. The game itself is more realistic, and there are also loads of game modes, some that allow you to stay with the game even when you're not at your console.

For example, Connected Franchise has you join a league online and then take control of your team either as a star player, the coach and, new this year, you can be the owner, which allows you to do everything from set the prices on the merchandise you sell at the stadium to even relocating your team to a new city and building an entirely new stadium. Through the Connected Franchise website, you can, via a computer or your mobile device, get updates or make changes that'll reflect in the game.

"Madden NFL 25" is a $60 game for the Xbox 360 and PS3, or there's an iOS version that starts as free, though you pretty much have to make some in-app purchases to get the full experience. ClientIP:,, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
