NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cellphone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.
For many of us it's the first thing we look at when considering buying a car: How safe it is. Well now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, you know the group that gives cars their one through five star ratings based on front impact crash, side impact crash, accident avoidance, etc., has for you an app with all that information. Called "SaferCar" you quite simply look up a year, a make and a model and up comes how well it did on those safety tests. The app also lists for you, by year, make and model, what recalls a particular car has plus it'll help you find a spot near you to install your car seat properly. There's also a spot in there for registering a complaint about your vehicle. "SaferCar" is right now an iOS only app and it's free.
If your car is in bad shape or you're in need of a mechanic ASAP check out "RepairPal". Based on your location it'll help find you an auto repair shop. You can then through the app get an estimate on the job you need plus offers up some questions you may want to ask when you get to the shop. You can also keep track of your car, see what maintenance has been done and be alerted to your next service appointments. There's also a one button touch to get you immediate road side assistance. "RepairPal" is a free for iPhones and Androids.
