Hockey fans may have just a slice of a season to enjoy this year, but several mobile apps can help them enjoy this season to its fullest. NY1's Adam Balkin filed the following report.

If you're a hockey fan looking to squeeze as much as is humanly possibly out of this extremely shortened season, mobile apps may be able to help with that.

The one to start off with is NHL's official GameCenter app. The free version offers up lots of the basics: news, scores, schedules, postgame highlights and even live radio broadcasts and play-by-play scoring.

If you want to go premium with GameCenter Live, you get live broadcasts of up to 40 out of market games, condensed game highlights and in-game highlights, plus classic games. Plus, the beauty of this one is you don't have to do it all from a little screen.

While it does work with iOS and Android devices, you can also catch games on all sorts of other connected devices, from Smart TVs to Roku, Boxee, and Apple TV boxes, to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

NHL Gamecenter Basic is free again for iOS and Android devices. GameCenter Live is $49.99 for the season.

Or, if you really just care about your hometown team, most have their own mobile app. These apps offer more team-specific content, like clips from their particular TV shows with locker room footage and practice footage. Plus, they can pop up news alerts concerning your team.

Each team app is a bit different, but these seem to be best if you're living in a city that's different from the one where your team resides, since they give a more local flavor.

To find your team's app, simply do a search in your device's mobile app store. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
