NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

Disney American Presidents: Unofficial Oval Office Scrapbook

Every four years from exactly now, our nation gets set to elect a president. As a result, school kids tend to be slightly more curious about the history of the presidency. To help satisfy that curiosity, Disney released a new app called "Disney American Presidents: Unofficial Oval Office Scrapbook."

The user begins by taking a seat in the Oval Office and then opening a scrapbook. Each president has his own page and each page includes interactive elements describing what that president was most known for.

Some tidbits are funny and some help clear up misconceptions. For example, George Washington's false teeth were made of gold, silver, ivory and lead but never wood, as many were led to believe.

Each president also has a short video detailing what his administration was best known during his office term.

"Disney American Presidents: Unofficial Oval Office Scrapbook" is an iPad-only app for $3.99.

ReConstitution 2012

To help inform users about the two men battling it out in the current election, there is now the app "ReConstitution 2012." Created by the art and technology studio Sosolimited, the app captures every word spoken during the debates in real-time and analyzes what is being said.

The app uses software called Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count, created by researchers out of the University of Texas.

Based on the candidate’s word selection, the app determines the true meaning behind what he is saying. Words and phrases are highlighted in different colors to indicate where the candidate is being positive, negative, bullish, showing rage, saying something scripted, being off-the-cuff or stating something as fact when it might not be so.
