The American Museum of Natural History recently took a walk on the mild side, as it hosted the premiere of the third season of "Portlandia." NY1's George Whipple filed the following report.

IFC recently premiered the third season of "Portlandia" at the American Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. The show's creators and stars, Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, walked the red carpet.

George Whipple: Why Portland, Oregon?

Brownstein: Their emphasis on leisure, quality of life, good food, affordability. You know what it is? It's the 'greatest hits' of cities.

Whipple: Aren't you teasing it a little bit?

Armisen: Not in a mean way. We're teasing ourselves more than anything, but it's like a gentle... it's a very loving teasing.

"Portlandia" is an outgrowth of "Saturday Night Live" sketches produced by Lorne Michaels.

"We're embodying a world that we are very much are a part of. We don't think of ourselves as outside looking in," says Brownstein. "We think of ourselves as espousing the same values, it's just that we're kind of calling into question, like, how important is this compared to what the rest of the world is dealing with. If that's our most important struggle, we have it pretty good."

The director, Jonathan Krisel, shared that it is easier to shoot in Portland than in New York.

"We're shooting one time outside this apartment building, no permission. The owner comes out: 'What going on here?' And I just went, 'We're shooting!' 'Oh, sorry!'" says Krisel.

Yours truly has a little association with Portland as well. Twenty-five years ago, my Choate roommate went out there to start Carlton Hill Vineyards. And let me tell you, "Portlandia" has Portland nailed!
