2003...New York City goes dark as the biggest blackout in the nation's history wipes out power for some 50 million people in the northeastern U.S. and Canada. Some areas of the city remain in the dark for 29 hours. A joint U.S.-Canadian task force eventually traces the origin of the blackout to failed power lines in Ohio.
