1995...Former Yankee star Mickey Mantle dies in a Dallas hospital of cancer while recuperating from a liver transplant at the age of 64. For a generation of New Yorkers, "The Mick" was the epitome of the all-American slugger – but he eventually became an alcoholic, and near the end of the life he urged his fans not to follow his lifestyle.
