1925...The first edition of The New Yorker magazine hits the stands.

1957...Brooklyn Dodger boss Walter O'Malley denies rumors that he'll move the team to Los Angeles. One year later, the Dodgers say goodbye to Brooklyn.

1965...Eleven months after leaving the Nation of Islam, Muslim activist Malcolm X is assassinated in front of his wife and children at the Audobon Ballroom in Harlem as he is about to address a rally of African-American followers. Three Nation of Islam members are later convicted of his murder.
