Homeowners along Bay Parkway in Brooklyn are sick of the sights and sounds resulting from trailer trucks parked outside their residences.

"In a residential area, to have tractor trailers lined up in front of your house, it's just not a pleasant experience," says Patty Alford, who has trailer trucks parked in front her house.

The huge tractor trailers parked overnight on weekends in this residential neighborhood. NY1 For You first reported on this last month, when residents complained to the station about the commercial vehicles, which are prohibited from parking on residential streets between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Unfortunately, residents say that does not stop them from using Bay Parkway as their own personal garage.

"Rather than paying for parking they're parking in front of our houses. They have refrigeration units that run continuously on cycles that are timed," says Benjamin Lapidus, who also has trucks parked outside his home.

"The noise that they generate is unbelievable," says Alford.

After NY1's first story aired, a spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection told the station there was an inspection of the site and idling violations were issued. The spokesman said DEP would determine with the Department of Transportation whether or not to install "No Idling" signs in the area.

Now, the agencies tell NY1 that signs will be installed within the next 90 days.

Residents are grateful but say enforcement is necessary to stop the trucks.

NY1 contacted the New York City Police Department and police officials say they are aware of the problem and have been taking enforcement action, issuing over 42 summons so far this year for overnight parking in that area.

Police also tell NY1 that additional enforcement operations are planned and the commanding officer will continue to monitor the condition.
