Now that construction has ended on a portion of Broadway in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, people in the neighborhood want the city to clean up after itself. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For You report. The construction barricades sitting on the side of Broadway between Marcy Avenue and Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn make it look like the street is an active construction site. But those who live and work around there say it is not.
"They finished working a long time ago," says Wascar Martinez, who works at a local store.
People in the neighborhood are very displeased.
"It doesn't look nice. It's terrible, very nasty. You gets rats coming here now because of the garbage," says one local.
"It attracts a lot of garbage and everything, and those pieces of wood can hurt people like that," says Martinez.
Neighbors also complain about the parking spots needlessly taken up by the barricades.
"No parking, no business," says Martinez.
"They're just there and they're affecting the business right now," says David Kim, who works in a local business.
After NY1 called the Department of Transportation, the agnecy inspected the location and found the equipment belongs to the NYC Transit Authority.
The DOT spokesman said the MTA was notified and requested to remove the equipment. It would be a lift to the neighborhood, which is looking forward to being barricade-free.
